One Press, Every Time
A garage door remote is the part of the system you use most, and the one you only think about when it stops working. Sometimes the fix is a battery. Sometimes the opener's lock is on, the remote lost its programming, or it is simply not compatible with a newer opener. And sometimes the remote is fine and the opener's receiver is the problem.
405 Garage Pros handles the whole control side of your garage door: handheld remotes, wireless keypads, wall buttons and smart openers you control from your phone. We find out why it stopped working and fix the real cause, instead of handing you a new remote that has the same problem.
Moved into a new home? Erase the opener's memory and reprogram your own remotes. Previous owners, contractors and anyone they gave a remote to may still be able to open your garage.
What We Do
- Program new and replacement remotes to your opener.
- Install and set up wireless keypads with your own code.
- Erase lost or stolen remotes from the opener's memory.
- Replace worn or broken wall buttons and wall consoles.
- Fix short range and remotes that only work up close.
- Set up smart openers and myQ so you can open, close and check the door from your phone.
- Show you how to pair your car's built-in garage buttons when your opener supports it.
Why a Remote Stops Working
Dead or Weak Battery
The most common cause. Range drops first, then the remote stops working altogether.
Lock Mode Is On
Many wall consoles have a lock button that shuts off all remotes for security. If the wall button works but remotes do not, check it first.
Lost Programming
A power surge or an opener reset can wipe the remotes from memory. Reprogramming fixes it.
Wrong Remote Type
Remotes only work with compatible openers. The color of the learn button on many LiftMaster and Chamberlain openers tells you which remotes will work.

Short Range? Look Around the Opener
If the remote only works when you are almost at the door, the cause is often near the opener, not in the remote. Some LED bulbs in the opener's light sockets give off interference that cuts the remote's range. A loose or damaged antenna wire on the opener does the same. We test with the bulbs out, check the antenna and receiver, and recommend opener-compatible bulbs if that is the problem.
Old Remotes and Security
Very old openers used fixed codes set with small switches inside the remote. Those codes never change, which makes them easy to copy. Modern openers use rolling codes that change every time you press the button. If your opener still uses switch-set remotes, upgrading the opener is a real security improvement, not just a convenience.
Smart Openers and Keypads
A smart opener lets you open and close the door from your phone, get an alert when it opens, and check whether you left it open after you drove away. A wireless keypad lets kids, family or a dog walker get in without a remote. We install and set up both, and show you how everything works before we leave.

FAQ
Why did my garage door remote suddenly stop working?
Check the battery first, then the lock button on the wall console. If both are fine, the remote may have lost its programming or the opener's receiver may need attention.
How do I erase all remotes from my opener?
On most openers you press and hold the learn button until its light goes out, which erases every remote and keypad. Then reprogram the ones you want to keep. We can do it for you.
Will any universal remote work with my opener?
Many will, but not all. It depends on the opener's brand and age. We match a remote that is compatible with your opener.
Why does my remote only work when I'm close to the garage?
Low battery, a damaged antenna wire on the opener, or interference from some LED bulbs in the opener are the usual causes.
Can you add a keypad outside my garage?
Yes. We install wireless keypads and set them up with your own code.
Can I control my garage door from my phone?
Yes, with a smart opener or a compatible smart add-on. We install and set up myQ and other smart options.
